Summary: When Diana Boyle discovers the existence of a directory of wealthy single women being used by the bachelors of England to find wives who will improve their financial situation, she decides not only to confront its author, Maxwell Dean, about his having painted targets on the backs of the women included in it, but also to plan with the ladies how they might use their inclusion in the directory to flip the social script and gain some control over their romantic destinies in a society that would not usually afford women this ability.

They really glossed over the fact that Maxwell gave out the addresses for women living with less protection as well as the amount of money they possessed. Everyone was acting like fortune hunting was the main risk, but I’d be more concerned with getting robbed and killed. Otherwise, a charming book with charming characters (almost to the point of being overly-sweet). Didn’t do anything remarkable but a fun read.

An interesting plot and story set up, I was surprised to find out it was inspired by an actual publishing in the 1700s!  Some points in the story were written awkwardly but it was overall a lighthearted romance.  Although Jim appeared for only a few lines, he has my favorite dialogues and moments :)

This book was not only a good representation of regency ideas of gender and society, but it was laugh out loud funny.  The women in this book revolt against the societal norms, and they are not disappointed in the results.

This isn’t my typical genre, but I liked it a lot despite that!
I appreciated that these women were not your typical damsels in distress who needed men to make something of themselves.
The HEA’s in this were perfect and what I hope every character gets to achieve!
This may have me visiting the historical romance genre more often!
