This isn’t my typical genre, but I liked it a lot despite that!
I appreciated that these women were not your typical damsels in distress who needed men to make something of themselves.
The HEA’s in this were perfect and what I hope every character gets to achieve!
This may have me visiting the historical romance genre more often!

3.25/5⭐️ nothing special

Pretty short and therefore to the point. I thought it was pretty cute. Basically no spice.

It wasn't that bad per se, it has its audience but I'm just not part of it.

I am actually very picky, extremely even, when it comes to romance. It has to check a lot of boxes for me to enjoy and The Ladies Rewrite the Rules checked none of them.

Firstly, the leads apparently get attracted to each other because of how beautiful they are. Which is fair, I do enjoy some love at first sight from times to times but if it doesn't lead to any deep emotional connection or doesn't overcome an obstacle to compensate the lack of the first, then it becomes bland to me. Also all the gentlemen in this book are too perfect to the point they're just bland. No flaws, no unique personalities, just men who are all so conveniently chivalrous and gentlemanly at the service of their lady.

I said I was enjoying the female friendships at least but even that got boring at some point. Don't get me wrong, women comforting each other and being the absolute besties is great and something I actively look for in books. However, when all their interactions are limited to comforting each other with the occasional help to get the man they want, the friendship itself ends up becoming stale. No surprises, no obstacles that would strengthen the bond, no laughing and joking, no exploring of common hobbies, etc. No fun stuff!

From the premise, I was expecting a group of women turning the tables and reclaiming their rights from men. I was expecting chaos, fun, flawed but forgiving romance, gossip, tea, you name it! But none of that happened. The book just turned out to be very cozy, which again isn't bad but then you need compelling characters to run the show and there weren't any here.

Again, I still didn't think the book was bad, just not for me.
