This is a somewhat forgettable, but clean, romance novel. It would usually get only 2 stars from me, as I have to agree with other reviewers that the plot seems very convenient. However, the author managed to (mostly) stay in a very convincing historical voice throughout, which makes this a good little book to fill a reading slump or as a palette cleanser between more dense works.

Suzanne Allain has some very sweet rom-coms, and this was no exception! It didn't necessarily have laugh out loud moments, but the circumstances of the book as a whole were lighthearted and fun

What it did have was heartwarming friendships, inspiring female empowerment, and multiple swoony romances. I loved the whole cast of characters, friend, foe, or in between, and I had so much fun watching Max and Diana fall for one another. This was a quick, lighthearted treat and I sighed several times reading it (both at romantic moments and really sweet friendship moments). A great read!
