I like the historical tie to a real list and I do love a good period romance where women take the lead. It was a cute book, but I do find the characters just lack some depth and the book does feel like it rushes through.

While this book was a fun palette cleanser, it did not deliver on the promising premise. This book started strong but I found that the characters lacked personality/distinguishing features (Regina was the most interesting character but still lacked a lot of depth/interest). I also felt like there was no tension or build up in the romances- the characters just realized they liked to spend time together. There were some cute lines but because there wasn’t any build up or tension I didn’t really feel anything for the romance. And while I really liked the idea of the women of society rewriting the rules that bound their behavior, it was such a subtle change at the beginning of the book with the first ball and then nothing else happened!! It was very unsatisfying how vanilla this book was with a premise that could have gone more outrageous and quirky. In general, I liked the writing style and the characters, but this book fell short in a lot of ways. I still enjoyed reading it, but it had the potential to be a great book and it was just alright. It’s an adult book but read like a middle grade with the lack of depth and simple plot devices.
