Oh my gosh I loved this book so much.

Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Honestly I had super high expectations for this book and it just didn’t live up to them. I love the idea of a group of Regency widows deciding they’d had enough of society’s rules and they were going to throw their own 19th century Sadie Hawkins ball, but that premise lasted for about two chapters and then we moved on. The heroes were all very agreeable and the villains were all very disagreeable but the emotional tenor throughout the book remained lukewarm at best. Plus there was constant head-switching at random intervals — at one point we suddenly start to see things through Lady Regina’s POV and I didn’t even realize she was a main character until then! So, overall, it’s a no from me dawg.

This story was charming and an absolute delight!

It’s humorous, lighthearted, warm and witty. The characters were lovely, and I was so happy how things played out for each of them, especially for Diana and Max.

I loved the twist where the ladies rewrite the rules and set their own terms for relationships with the men who are courting them. I really enjoyed how the ladies felt more empowered and self confident after doing so.

The friendship between the main female characters was very endearing, and a highlight for me.

It’s a quick read, well written, fast-paced, and full of wonderfully sharp dialogue, and sweet romance. Reading it was an absolute pleasure. I loved it, and it’s one I highly recommend.

Thanks to Suzanne Allain, Berkley Publishing, NetGalley, and Austenprose PR for the review copy. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

After the first chapter, I debated dropping this book but I’m so glad I didn’t. At one point, I would become disappointed every time I needed to stop reading and return to real life. I loved the many different ways the women in this book took back their power whether it was from society, men, family or even themselves.
