Graham McTavish, Sam Heughan
Even if you don't know about Outlander, even if you don't know a thing about Scottish history, the comradery between Heughan and McTavish is absolutely addicting and keeps you wanting more. Sam and Graham regale you with tales from their own lives, mixed with Scottish history, mixed with Sam dragging Graham up and down the highlands. At times, you're confused about where they're going or what point they are making, but you're not mad at it because you're caught up in their banter and hilarious anecdotes. I'm looking forward to their writing styles improving, as their storytelling is already perfection
Definitely one best suited for audio. Their banter back and forth were the best parts of the book. The history was interesting and I liked how they tied it back to the Outlander story. At some point I’ll get around to watching their show - I bet it’s very funny.

Loved the book!! I wish more of the places visited had a prononciation guide to help ensure I wasn't butchering the words in my head.
A treat, especially for Outlander fans. So much fun. Check out the audio version if you can!
delightful armchair traveling with a side of theater
The storytelling, the banter and sweet dreams of excellent whiskey make this book a true delight to read!

Super fun, engaging and easy read. Sam and Graham are hilarious and their antics break up the history to make it easily consumable. If you’re a Tolkien fan you might enjoy Graham’s Hobbit trivia thrown in here and there. The audiobook accompaniment is well worth it.
If you’re looking for a history book this is not it. It’s basically a fun buddy comedy road trip with the humor of two older men (I think Sam is like 40 ish? Graham in his 50s maybe?) and some bits of history thrown in amongst making fun of each other and spouting obscure Outlander and Hobbit trivia. If you’re a big Outlander fan you might like it, I haven’t seen the show or read the books but came in as a huge fan of the Hobbit and history in general and had an absolute blast. I’m in for the sequels 🤷🏻♀️
