I just loved listening to these two talk to me in the audio version.

Long-winded rambling about... two middle-aged guys in a mutual appreciation club? The most interesting bits were about history and whisky, all of which was just paraphrased from other sources.
Not sure if they realized just how misogynistic and cringe-worthy a lot of their interaction and riffing on each other was. If you're into overly contrived, boys will be boys (on a paid for road trip), go for it.

This might read better as a book, instead of an audiobook...

Weak 3/5 for the bits taken from other sources that taught me something new about Scotland and whisky, and the accents.

I may have laughed until I cried reading this book. It’s a refreshing way to sprinkle Scottish History with witty humor and banter between Sam and Graham. If you love Outlander you will enjoy hearing two out your favorite characters interact. It’s a peek into the friendship of Sam and Graham that will make your heart happy.

3.5 stars.

A fun and enjoyable read. Part travel narrative, part personal memoir of Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish, plus a lot of behind-the-scenes tidbits of Outlander filming. The dialogue was meandering and wandering at times (not unlike many Scottish Highland roads!), but overall entertaining.

This was fun! Fantastic audiobook with so much banter, passion, and enthusiasm. It really helped having watched Outlander, been to half of the locations (before they were TV famous!), and having a live to learn more about where some family was from!
adventurous funny informative

I loved reading this book. I’ve wanted to travel to Scotland since I was young and first saw Gustavo Dore’s painting The Scottish Highlands in an art museum, but I haven’t been, and with the pandemic still in full force I’m not likely to go soon. Enter Clanlands.
a wonderful combination of travelogue, Scottish history book, personal and professional memoir, and comedy, plus a bit of a photo album at the end with photos from both actors’ childhood, acting career, and the trip through Scotland (during which they were filming a show that would become Men in Kilts).

The book starts with a foreword by Diana Gabaldon and the rest toggles back and forth between Sam and Graham, sometimes continuing where the other left off, sometimes backing up a few scenes to tell their side, and often interjecting in each other’s parts. Although it doesn’t quite feel like being on the journey with them, it does feel like hanging out afterward listening to the post-journey story.
Kindle has the book at 450 pages, and it went by quickly even breaking it up over several nights. I’m looking forward to watching the show the book documents the creation of.

Note for Outlander fans: As a fan of Outlander who had come to it recently and binged all 5 seasons, it was fun to learn some background stories about the actors’ experiences and some of the locations. However, I would caution those who’ve not yet caught up in the series to wait if you don’t want spillers as there are several in the book which appear without warning. (I imagine they assume people reading will have already seen the series as they mention at least once pitching the show they filmed to tide people over during the Droughtlander).

I mean, it was funny the first 50 times.

Never seen the show but a fun jaunt through Scottish history and culture.

Quarantine read.
