Two of my favourite actors talking about everything Scottish while having the perfect balance between banter and information? Yes, please.

I'm not exactly the target audience for this. I've seen one season of Outlander and have a broad interest in Scotland due to family heritage, but I'm not a super fan. And I don't really like whisky. So this was a bit of a rollercoaster ride for me. Overall interesting and entertaining, especially the history bits. But the buddy adventure tone got to be a bit much at times, especially when coupled with the casual sexism that went as far as wrapping up a narration about a horrendous (historical) rape and its horrifying, traumatizing affect, with a gleeful discussion about adding it to the already rape-filled script and a charming, twinkling comment about the old fox of a clan leader and  "ravishings." Yuck. No.

This was a fun audiobook to listen to, mixed with the history of Scotland, it recounts a wild and funny trip between the two actors as they explore the countryside. I enjoyed it, but I enjoyed the Clanlands almanac so much more, it felt richer and more informal, while this one felt a little too long and repetitive.

Definitely a recommendation for anyone who is interested in Scotland, or has read/watched Outlander (I haven't, but still enjoyed my experience with both of the Clanlands books!)

I enjoyed the tv show back when I watched it in early 2021 but now I'm really second guessing the content and my memory. Let me explain. Sam and Graham are perfect for the audiobook but wow they come across very egotistical and sexist in the book. I'm really trying to wrack my brain to remember if what was said in the book is the same as the show as there are points of crossover. The show contains many interviews so there's less just Sam and Graham.

If you are interested in Scottish history, likely wouldn't recommend this one to you. If you're wanting to know more about Sam and Graham's careers, you do get insight here. They clearly have fun sniping at each other during their banter but at what cost... There should be more effort made, especially in this day, to not call Graham "Lady McTavish" for enjoying lattes, safety and a comfortable bed. It likely wasn't intended as a gender jab and more about class, but it just doesn't come across well. There are also some homophobic tones to how Jamie Fraser's abuse from book 1/season 1 of Outlander is brought up while being a little to casual regarding rape.

I liked bits and pieces of Clanlands. Sam and Graham's voices are excellent for audiobooks, which is also why they're great on tv/stage but the overall tone was just not what I expected from these two.

Funny and still learning book. Learned so much about Scotland, but also time on Outlander. Made me laugh often.
Narrated by Sam and Graham, they are so funny!!

As a fan of both actors, I may be bias in saying so but this book was an absolute gem. It took so many things I enjoy - history, memoir, general tomfoolery - and packaged it in a relatable narrative that had the added bonus of true and ever-developing friendship. I laughed and I learned as I read along to the audiobook, and more than once I felt like I could be touring the same places in a shitty camper van with my best friend.

All in all, a reading experience I thoroughly enjoyed... so much so that I forced myself to put it down at several points so I could prolong it. A solid 4.5 stars.
