This is my second favorite all time book. Amazing story and very fun. Kind of like Harry Potter before Harry Potter even existed. But better.

How can I convince you to read this book. How about with the first line, ]The Great gray beast February had eaten Harvey Swick alive] How can you not love that. Especially when we are in the middle of such a gloomy time of the year. Such a perfect description of the time of the year when the holidays are over and there is only gray bitter skies, and Easter (which is too far to even matter). Harvey knows that if he has to spend any more time without fun in his life he will just die of boredom.
For fans of the Phantom Tollbooth, who are looking for a similar story, just a little darker, little older, a little scarier.

This book is wonderful. Barker is able to paint with his words and you can see and feel everything. Who hasn't felt half devoured by the Great gray best of February. From the first page you are hooked and taken with Harvey to the Holiday house.
You must by the book or read the book with the pictures in it. I know it sounds childish but they are great and add to the story. It's worth it trust me, you know I won't steer you wrong.
This book follows Harvey Swick a boy who like all of us lets boredom overtake him and like the scary monkey hand teaches us, be careful what you wish for. He is taken by Rictus to the Holiday house every child's dream, every day is jammed packed with all the, you guessed it, holidays. Every room is filled to bursting with whatever you want. But there is a dark secret that Harvey has to figure out and defeat if he ever wants to see his new friends, or his parents again. Beautiful lyrical haunting and as always with the Clive Barker twist this book will not fail to catch you and keep you.

It's rare for me to say I think a book is perfect, but this one is. It may only be a children's book but the plot is well-paced, seamless, and satisfactory. Mr Barker's well-turned phrases are the icing on the cake. Beautifully written.

Read in one sitting. I literally could not put it down. What a beautiful, dark, fairy tale. This will be an annual Halloween season read from now on.
