This book will reward re-reading, mulling over & reading outside reviews. It is complex, romantic, full of hope & despair all at the same time. Is the conclusion that
we must break away from more collective identities correct
?

it took me such a goddamn long time to finish this book because I had surgery… I’ll pretend that was it.

I was deeply impressed by the end, when I could look back and appreciate all the foreshadowing. The prose, too, was unlike anything I’ve ever read— poetic, leaving plenty of space for the reader to comprehend imagery and plot on their own. this was, unfortunately, the single drawback of this novel… it was a struggle for me to read in my anaesthesia-induced state; I would sit puzzling over single sentences for hours. That said, now that I’ve been able to approach it with a clear head, I can enjoy the style much more. I’d recommend this to anyone who’s into timey-whimey sci-fi topped off with queer romanticism and a sprinkle of mystery.

Wish the Sci-Fi part was more,, explained? important?
It seemed so interesting but unfortunately fell short, which made plot points confusing and kind of boring at times. I felt it only got really good as i started to ignore the confusion, but i'd have much prefered some more detail in that sense.
How everything between red and blue got tied together tho was quite nice! I assumed reds presence troughout the story but didn't link it to anything at that point.

i really enjoyed this book, however, one downside was how vague the world dynamic felt. i know it was written in a more poetic way (which i enjoyed), however, i felt myself waiting for answers that were never explicitly explained.

this sounds ridiculous but even if the story was kept exactly how it was and there was a little glossary in the back of the book that explained
who/what Garden was, who/what the Agency was, why Red signed up for the war, was Blue truly a princess or was that just the host body she was in when she became sick, and why they were even fighting with a few sentences for each. i would have been fully content with that.
(and please done come for me i know much of it is either left to interpretation or explained in a broad/vague way but for dummies like me a small glossary would help and also not ruin the experience of reading this story).
