So much fun to read! Searching for Dragons is adventuresome, enchanting, and funny. Surprisingly cozy too. It starts a bit slow, but give it a few chapters and it'll feel like your favourite, uplifting animated movie.

Never as good as the first. This time, the King of the Enchanted Forest and is having troubles with wizards. He then sets out on a journey with Cimorene to rescue Kazul.

The 2nd book in the Enchanted Forest series goes in a very different direction, introducing Mendanbar, the king of the Enchanted Forest, as a main character and as a love interest for Cimorene, the lead character from the first book. The dragons are in the background in this volume; this book is very much about weird magical happenings in the forest and an epic quest for Mendanbar and Cimorene.

It's all great fun, with a tone that allows for some danger and earnest adventuring while maintaining a sense of arch humor.

My son and I read this one at the same time, and we're both eager to continue with the series. Definitely recommended for pre-YA readers who enjoy a good fantasy/adventure tale but aren't interested in more than a light brush with romance.

Read my full thoughts over at Read.Write.Repeat.

Though not as intrinsically magical as the first book, this sequel continues the fun, nontraditional fairy tale.

4.5 I loved this series as a kid and maybe I'm nostalgic but I'm loving reading it as an adult too. (This is my favorite of the four, so I always read books 2-4 first then go back to 1). Though its geared to young people, it doesn't talk down to them. And it resists the urge to take it's humor into pure silliness. The fairytale satire was actually still really fresh and fun for me. Things wrapped up more quickly than I remembered, but I think the problems build and escalate over the course of the series.
