okay first, PLEASE do not judge based on this cover. it’s definitely not the worst cover, but in my opinion, it makes it look a lot more juvenile than it is. okay onto my thoughts: i
have a weakness for teen slasher books. i LOVE the idea of them, but i have not found one that i have actually thought was good. until this one!
there are a couple thing that make it stand out to me. the first is that there is a supernatural element to it. not ghosts or anything, but a supernatural time element. i’m not into books that are supernatural usually, but the one exception to that is books that play with time and time travel or time loops. i LOVE to see it.
i loved that horror movie and true crime references, i enjoyed the mc a lot, and i thought the writing was great for what the book it–a teen slasher. there were a lot of parts about the writing and structure and planning that i really admired. as a beginner thriller writer, i got to the end of this book and thought “damn, there are so many thing about this that i hope i can capture in my book” i did kind of predict the end, but not in a bad way, if that makes sense. as i got closer to the end, i had a thought about how it would be really cool if the author would be able to pull of a certain character being the killer, but i didn’t know how it would happen or even make sense. but i got to the end, and the author did pull off the reveal, and everything came together in a way where i was like “ooohhhh that’s how it all happened. of course, there were all these clues” which is EXACTLY how i want to feel at the end of a mystery. i want to surprised, but have clues to point to that i remember from earlier in the book that makes it all come together. reveals that come out of the blue are my pet peeve, and luckily that didn’t happen here.

Hated the ending, not fleshed out at all. And the killer was clear about 2/3 of the way through.

6/10, light YA slasher book and the ending was unexpected but not jaw-dropping
mysterious
medium-paced
Beginning was a little slow but it def picks up and is entertaining. Legit didn't know who the killer was until the reveal. And what a reveal it was!
Kind of reminded me of My Heart is a Chainsaw in some aspects with all the horror movie references, the main characters being into horror movies, and the main characters talking/thinking about finals girls and how to be like them.
I will say with everything that happened, the ending was not my fave. Is it shocking? Yes. Is it satisfying? Absolutely not.

Wow, what a wild ride! I loved this fast paced horror/slasher 😍 and the twists were so good! But it doesn’t make that much sense unfortunately and the time line doesn’t add up… Plus I found it quite annoying that the diversity of the cast was so hugely disclaimed, but the author still labeled one of the girls as „slutty“ just because she didnt wore pants at home 😅 But apart from these negative points, it was so much fun and kept me at the edge of my seat!
