What a fun twisty ride this was. It’s packed with 90s references and nostalgia and I was here for it. This was my first book by this author and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it, because I don’t read young adult as often as I used to, but even so, this book was super unique and had several reveals that had my head spinning. I also thought it poked fun at itself and the horror genre, which I love.
It starts out with a killer in a cornfield wielding a chainsaw against a hapless teenage girl before pivoting to the first-person perspective of our protagonist, Alice, and recounting the events that led up to the attack which ultimately ended in her sister Claire’s death at the hands of Owen Trevor Maddox. A year later, as Alice is the only witness to her sister’s death, she must testify at Owen’s trial and essentially be the one to put him behind bars for good, but when a Sydney Prescott lookalike shows up Alice is suddenly thrust back in time to right the wrongs of that fateful night and find out who the real killer is.

I’m so mad but also so amazed. This was such a twisty ya book that constantly kept me guessing. I’m so upset yet so happy with how great this story was. A twisted Halloween take on it’s a wonderful life
