I never had to read this in high school, but my youngest currently is and I thought, "Gosh! Wouldn't it be fun to read it together and then get some popcorn and snuggle up with a viewing of 'Easy A'??"

I hoped it would be semi-fun. I mean, he uses the phrase "brazen huzzy" pretty early on. There is a slightly gothic tone at times, maybe some witches (women. they were women.) in the woods.

Yet, I now wish had read the abridged version with the high school (insert your own snarky comment about current book banning culture).

Hester comes across as pretty strong, but at the end of the day this was a pathetic reminder that no matter what... it is ALWAYS the women's fault. FYI: That is in fact NOT CORRECT! Dude was a reverend. He knew.

I am surprised about the fact that I actually quite enjoyed this book. It was not that long and it was kind of bearable. However, what I absolutely hated was the beginning. It was some kind of introductory part or idk what and it was so boring, long, and unnecessary. It had over thirty pages and I was actually suffering before I got to the actual story. That's the main reason I am giving this book three stars instead of four.
