Eu gostei tanto do final e dos temas desse livro que eu quase consegui ignorar os diálogos insuportáveis diretamente tirados de uma fanfic

Tempted to give an even lower rating, but some parts of this were okay. I did not get the hype around this - the first couple of pages read like insufferable fanfic dialogue. The chapters jump from character to character never really following up on anything or fleshing them out. The only pov I enjoyed was Zoë’s.

I feel like I am not often very critical of books. Being an aspiring author myself, I find it difficult to not like everything I read and so I usually rate things generously. However, I am working to be more honest with myself on what rating books deserve. And so, this gets about 3.5 stars.

I really loved Blue Sisters, which was released after this book and I read first. It may have been smart to start with this book seeing as Coco Mellors has only two published books thus far and I owned both at the time. However, I am glad I read this one second because I really got to appreciate the growth she's had from her first novel to her second. I think Blue Sisters simply resonated with me more and had a lot more relatable content.

This book was super entertaining and fast paced and I was engaged the entire time, however I think some of the material that was in a lot of the book was just very foreign to me and not interesting. I felt like I was watching Euphoria with adults the entire time which isn't bad seeing as Euphoria is a decent show, but it was more just out of touch for me. I think Euphoria is interesting however I have no emotional connections to many of the plotlines and characters because I watched it more for entertainment than content value.

I'd say the most interesting and poignant parts of the book were Eleanor's chapters. The structure was super intriguing and she was by far the most enjoyable character. I liked how the story explored a lot of characters rather than just the main two on the title. Everyone felt very real and fleshed out, but some were much more enjoyable than others. Unfortunately Quinten was my least favorite and his moments in the book took me out of it. As well as Anders, I unfortunately did not care about Anders at all. I liked both Cloe and Frank, but Zoe was by far my favorite. She was flawed yet fun and really made the book.

I loved the ending, and how everything ended up going, and I felt it was a very well structured story considering it's lack of traditional plot. Overall, it was decent. I can see how much Coco Mellors has explored her writing in just her second book, it feels much more developed with more relatable themes for me. But I'd give this one a read, it's quick and easy with something to take away.
