My bias as a barista may be showing, but I loved the pacing and characters, and really enjoyed the amount of time spent describing the coffee. A quick read and exactly what my brain wanted!

Like any collection of stories, some of them are stronger than others, but there are a lot of compelling reflections on grief, parenting, and regret.

Reading this book felt like I was reading the screenplay of an anime. Which makes sense, since it was originally written as a play.
The characters were simple and childish, and obvious things were often overexplained or repeated over and over again. This made reading it frustrating sometimes.

However, it had it's good moments. The concept is interesting, and some of the short stories were touching.

A slow burn, sentimental novel that lures you in with its fascinating premise. Although the first half of the book dragged and much of the character writing fell flat, the last two chapters were emotional, even powerful. Quietly seeping through to the end is the book’s contemplation of lingering regret and enduring love, bolstered by its ensemble cast of characters and drip-fed world-building.

It was a good book and easy to read, which is always a plus. It was hard to determine when it was in time at some points, but it didn’t end up being a big problem. Overall, a pleasant read that didn’t take long and left me feeling inspired/reflective.
