Terminar este libro me dio mucho sentimiento, pues crecí leyendo los 9 libros desde los 14, ahora 19, si lo sé, me tarde mucho en acabarlo, pero yo sabía que algo en mi interior no quería que terminarán los libros

3.5 stars. REREAD 2022. Still very remarkable to me that this collection houses one of the best Holmes stories ever (The Three Garridebs: fun, hijinks-y, great character moments and a glimpse of Holmes' heart) and also the absolute fucking worst (The Three Gables: racist as hell, dull, no good intrigue/deductions). The good outweighs the bad in the book, especially since we've got the Illustrious Client and the Blanched Soldier, which are both really dear to me. But the bigotry in a few of the stories is enough to sour me.
As always, the entire Holmes canon isn't something that I can ever approach with complete objectivity, because it's tied up in so much nostalgia and affection for me. So while I have some very real and pertinent problems with some of it, doing these rereads of the entire canon just always makes me really happy.

I love this book because "The Three Garridebs" goes so hard but I also hate it because "The Three Gables" is racist as shit.

Je suis un peu déçue, car c'est le premier Sherlock Holmes que je lis et les héros sont déjà vieux, néanmoins ces nouvelles sont haletantes et extrêmement bien construites. Les résonnements sont tous très intelligents et l'ambiance est absolument remarquable, sans parler de l'amitié forte entre le Sherlock Holmes et Dr Watson, qui je pense est encore plus développée dans les autres histoires mais qui est déjà très attachante.

Poor Doyle. He so clearly wanted to be done with these characters years ago, and the public just wouldn't let him. I feel like he is TRYING to jump the shark with some of these stories, specifically the ones without Watson and The Creeping Man. However, the others were enjoyable, and I liked that Holmes was more overtly appreciative of Watson in this book than he had been before.
