This book was so much fun to read. The author pairs a brat with a compulsive love for destruction, from a crime family with a stoic ex marine bodyguard who is a bit unprepared for who he’s signed up to protect.
This book was hilarious, sweet, steamy and completely unputdownable.

Expect:
* “The brattiest brat that ever bratted ”
* A “giant” bodyguard
* Size difference
* Animosity to love
* Kink exploration
* Age gap

Diablo is terrifyingly adorable, completely out of control, over confident in his life skills beyond saws, hugely loyal to his brother and has a mushy sweet lonely core that you just want to hug. (My need for order was constantly triggered by Diablo’s complete disregard for it).
When Skylar is assigned by Diablo’s father to protect him and go on the run, at first they are like magnets repelling against each other since Diablo takes it upon himself to make things as difficult as possible. But he quickly learns to adjust and see who Diablo is under all that retaliation and snark and reactivity and he wants to give him what he needs. Their attraction is toxic and explosive and all sorts intertwined with feelings and baggage that neither is to keen to confront.

I loved the ending, layers of plot and dynamics tied up, characters humanised, attachment declared.
If you love witty, fast paced, morally grey, sweet, swoony, violent and messy stories I definitely recommend you check this one out.

CW: Violence, morally grey and mature content, dub c0n/non c0n.

Huge content warnings for CNC and dub-con. Truly every single sex scene of this book is dub-con at best, and CNC (or straight non-consent without the character’s internal monologue) at worst. For a dub-con book this is pretty good, but for a book in this series, I’m frustrated. Tonally, this book is a huge departure from the rest of the series. This book is significantly more violent, significantly less fun, and in my opinion entirely humorless.

If I had read this book expecting it to be a dark romance dub-con book, the book could easily be a 3.5-star read. As a book in this series, I was disappointed and honestly feel a bit tricked. I liked Diablo’s cameos in the previous stories, I was expecting this to be funny, over-the-top, maybe a touch dark, and instead I feel like I was slapped in the face.

I was looking forward to Diablo’s story for months, but it really fell short for me.

Yes, it was hilarious and yes, it was a wee bit kinky, but that was where it ended for me. There was no depth to Skylar’s character whatsoever other than how he likes to shut Diablo up, and Diablo was borderline annoying.

Diablo’s story could have been amazing, but it felt rushed. And there was significantly less spice than all of Cora’s other books

DNF 20%. This has officially closed the cycle of CR for me in this life. Whit to Luke and Until/Always Him were my fave reads ever. Anything after that has been just a huge decline and change in style that is just not for me. Saddens me but it is what it is.
