Don’t get me wrong, I love Trudi Canavan, but I’m not relating to these protagonists quite as much as in her other series. I’m also more than ready for the finale and I was a bit disappointed to learn there’s another book in this series! I think it would have worked better (?) as a triology.

This was tough… most of the book felt like a filler. I think, less than half of it would have been enough to fit the story in and still not be rushed. It was even more slow paced than the first two, and many parts were not relevant for the main story, progress, or character development.
It felt like a 2* for me, compared with the first two books, but compared with other 2* books reviews of mine it didn't feel right, as it's still a good story and writing.

The story continues to follow Tyen and Rielle. Some pacing problems peek through but overall this was a fun read which managed somehow to both provide some resolution and leave a lot hanging. Looking forward to the final book of the series.

Successor's Promise is the third book of the series and honestly the one I've struggled with the most.

After the Raen has been defeated at the end of the last book, this book shows us the developments that came after that. While showing us Rielle's and Tyen's new actions and purposes a new main character is properly introduced: Qall, the (probable) successor of the Raen and the vessel that he was originally supposed to be resurrected in.

Much of the book is spent on debating Qall's intentions and honestly the whole character fell short for me. I felt really disconnected to him and his motivations. For the important role he plays in the series I think it lacked his perspective. I recognize that a lot of suspense is supposed to come from the fact that nobody can read his thoughts and we as the reader are also not aware of them. But it made me just really uninterested in the book.

Disappointed with this book. I love the vision but there were so many overly described parts and drawn out stories that were not particularly interesting. It took a while to get into but the 2nd half was much better. There were a number of obvious errors in the Kindle version as well

As usual, Trudi Canavan manages to capture my imagination with her vivid writing. Successor's Promise was no different. I loved the in-depth character development and the way the story panned out. Rielle and Tyen have to be some of my favourite characters!
