Charming and fun for a Madison native/current resident. I appericiated the diversity of the female characters. The conclusions for the romances were a little too easy...too perfect, but I enjoyed that way each character found a familia replacement in each other.
What a great book to start 2016! I love antique shops and collecting vintage pieces to add that bit of something extra to my outfits. So Vintage was a book completely jiving with my style. I also love that Susan Gloss has an Etsy shop, Cleverly Curated, to sell pieces that she has come across. Terrific author... My favorite quote from the book: "Betsy doesn't keep beautiful things to herself. I've learned from her that a pretty thing isn't worth much if you can't share it with anyone. It's just a thing. Only when you let others enjoy it, too, does it become beautiful"
Her bicep tattoo is a phoenix. Which is exactly what 38 year old Violet is. A phoenix rising from the ashes. She has cultivated a vintage clothing store in Madison, WI and develops several successful friendships there. A failed marriage, crushed college dreams, and the chance to have a family are all fire kindling that have allowed her to rise and seize a life that she wants. Violet takes a chance, reminiscent of the one her philanthropist friend offered her in the form of a small business loan, by offering an internship to a pregnant eighteen year old college student. The partnership that develops changes Violet's life. When her ascent is threatened by a potential eviction and she needs funding quickly; Violet discovers how taking chances on people may surprise you beyond your expectations.
This was a sweet book. I didn't feel a connection with the characters at first but some of the sweet interactions toward the end of the book had me tearing up a bit. Mostly, though, I just want to go look at all the clothes at the shop that's central to the story.
Sweet and fun
Good summer reading - sweet, with interesting, sympathetic characters and a decently-paced, gentle plot. Parts of the conclusion were telegraphed well in advance, but it's still a satisfying read.

When Violet Turner left behind her life and moved to Madison, Wisconsin she wanted to start fresh and have her life the way that she had always wanted to live it, independently. She opened the vintage clothing shop, found beautiful items to stock her store with, had the love of her trusty furry companion and answered to no one. However, life can’t always go the exact way we want it to? Right?
Vintage by Susan Gloss tells the story of those items in Violet Turner’s shop while weaving a story about friendship, love and new life through all of the intricate pieces that are brought into the shop. Through the novel you are introduced to the women who Violet learns to let into her life and teach her something new- even if she isn’t interested and what commences is the birth of a beautiful sisterhood.
I appreciated the story line of each of the characters introduced in this novel and, especially, learning about their individual experiences. It was an enjoyable, quick read and everything, seemingly, tied together with a nice bow at the end. I did find the story line to be a bit predictable but at the same time, that’s what I was hoping for when I chose this book to read. I look forward to reading more from Susan Gloss in the future.

High 3/low 4. This book is about the owner of a vintage clothing shop in Madison, Wisconsin, and a few of the other women who come into her life. It is one of those stories with a mix of the serious (alcoholism, cancer, suicide, teen pregnancy, etc.) and the romantic, but where all (or at least most) of the problems are resolved with a happy ending and a neat bow at the end. I think I would have liked it better if it had leaned into the issues a bit more, rather than reaching for the rather predictable and unrealistic happy ending, but I give it an extra star for capturing the spirit of Madison (one of my favorite cities!) so well.
I have to say, I *loved* this book, and it made me realize I need to read more books about women and their relationships with one another. (Oh, and BY women)
It’s likely this is a case of reading a book at the right time. I loved all the protagonists and was invested in all of their stories (especially Violet’s).
(And shout out to my best friend for recommending the book to me. They know me too damn well

This book was adorable, it's a story of a random group of people who become friends and become family in the end. They all realize that they have each other and that matters more than anything else. They can depend on each other and they can help each other. I love that it ended the way it did, everything seemed to work out the way it was supposed to and the way I hoped that it would.
I received this book as a giveaway through Goodreads.
I loved this story! It drew me in instantly. I loved the ups and downs of the main characters and how there was a background story for everyone, but it never seemed long-winded or unnecessary.
The bit of romance and thrill was exciting as well.
I would definitely read more from this author.
