This was my first Ruth Ware and I quite enjoyed it. However, I did find a few problems.
I liked the storyline and the suspense. The idea of couples on a reality show to determine who the perfect couple is. It definitely had its share of mystery, us vs. them concept, and definitely keeps the reader engaged. Ware had a way of bringing everything full circle with a satisfying conclusion. I did feel the ending was rushed, and there were a fee plot holes with some of the characters. Still, a fascinating read.

Picture it: You're on an island with 8 strangers and your partner only to be cut off from the world when a storm strands you with limited supplies. Then surprise! There's a murderer among you! Will you survive? Well that's the task ahead of Lyla when she begrudgingly agrees to participate in a new tv show. A little Lord of The Flies, a little Agatha Christie, and a whole lot of Survivor. 'One Perfect Couple' is on the scary side of reality television.
Graphic: Murder, Domestic abuse, Injury/Injury detail, Emotional abuse, Death, Violence, Toxic relationship, Physical abuse, Grief, and Chronic illness
Moderate: Misogyny

Been awhile since I've read a thriller and this was excellent. I'm never good at figuring out the twist and I couldn't this time either.

This was gripping, dramatic and heart pounding. I loved the drama of the reality tv show with the isolation and whodunit aspects. Ruth Ware can be a hit or a miss for me and this was definitely a hit.

Oooo this was a fun read! I love how Ware crafted the story and made it so engaging and clausterphobic. This one is pretty straight forward - I kept waiting for a big twist but it wasn’t really needed with the way this was crafted. The characters felt real as I know some people would totally buy into the premise of this show for the chance at fame. While this is very different from her other books, I enjoy the uniqueness and it’s a great summer read.

ONE PERFECT COUPLE will be one perfect summer read! I’ve been noticing a trend of reality show tropes in the thriller arena. And just like reality shows, you know what you’re getting with this one - a fun, entertaining good time. All guilt*less* pleasure.
After Lyla’s boyfriend convinces her to enter a competition reality show, she finds herself on a paradise island with a cast of other couples. Things immediately start to go wrong and with no phones, no contact with the outside world and dwindling supplies, the group has to work together to survive.
Don’t expect a twisty ride or lots of surprises. This is less a story of whodunnit and more a story of howdunnit, whydunnit and are you going to dunnit????? There were quite a few characters but since everything stays pretty surface level (except for perhaps Lyla’s POV), it was pretty easy to keep track of everyone. Suspense slowly builds up to a captivating end. This was an immersive and entertaining read. All I needed was a margarita and a lounger to complete the package. [pub date: May 21] 4/5

Lyla research has stalled and she is pretty sure she won’t have a job shortly. So when her boyfriend Nico tells her they are being chosen to go on a new reality show “One Perfect Couple,” she finally allows him to convince her to do it. She is wary of the show and the show runners, but she will do this for Nico and hopefully get eliminated early. When a storm comes through and leaves only the contestants on the island, things begin to look dire. The boat hasn’t come back, and their water and food rations are dwindling. Will they survive being stranded on this island?
Ruth Ware knows how to write a crazy thriller, and this one was no different! From the start this reality show seemed sketchy as hell, but it was worse than anyone could have expected. 8 people trying to ration the water and food they have of course led to mayhem and certain folks deciding they were “in charge.” I did this one on audio and I just could not stop listening to find out what was going to happen. This one kept me on my toes for sure and if you are looking for a fast paced thriller this summer I highly recommend! Though maybe don’t read it if you are vacationing on a deserted island!
