I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed this collection of short stories as my first experience with Irving’s work. I’m not sure where the persona of Geoffrey Crayon ends and Washington Irving begins, but I felt a connection with the writings and felt like I could be friends with the author. I also enjoyed seeing a glimpse into the culture of the early 1800s and how humanity hasn’t changed much since then. I enjoy the musing/reflective tone and frankness of the author as well as his humor.
