Muir’s character dynamics and character multidimensional and the way she writes women so central though is incredible.

I found the first section very slow. Sad and slow.
I did not like Harrow. Gideon's relationship with Harrow reminded me of a child sticking with her primary school bully when they start high school, because better the devil you know. I'm glad this wasn't enemies-to-lovers and that the author didn't gloss over the horrors of their relationship as much as I was worried they would.
The image on the cover depicts Gideon wearing makeup she hates, wielding a weapon she hates, with a name she hates. Wearing sunglasses because daylight hurts. It looks so powerful and yet.
So much death. So much gore. So much violence. I skipped a lot of the big boss scene (which took 30+ pages at the end).
Graphic: Gore, Death, Child abuse, Bullying, Violence, Body horror, and Child death
Moderate: Blood

Gideon is crude and funny and brave and kind and a delight. Teenage jock lesbian forced to goth, wears sunglasses about it.
The plot is So Much (positive) and the Central relationship has pulverised my heart (positive but. OUCH.).
