This book is fantastic. My only regret is that I am just now reading this wildly imaginative sci-fi/fantasy story that blends necromancy, swordswoman/men, mystery, and politics with humor while set in space. I could never, in my wildest dream, have imagined such a story. I was hooked from the start and would have read it all in one sitting if my life and time had allowed. I cannot wait to dive into book 2. Read this ASAP.

Really don’t mesh with the writing style
updated 5/19/25: i think i have to bump this up to 5 stars. i just cannot stop thinking about. one of my fav reads of the year.
4/30/25: what a special book. so so so funny and snarky and smart and bright and weird. it would have been a 5 star read if i didn’t feel so stupid for literally the entire book. i just never quite got the hang of what was happening or why or to whom. i started listening on audiobook (which i highly, highly recommend) but halfway through i had to companion read with audio and i think that kind of helped? despite my constant confusion i just couldn’t stay away. i love gideon and harrowhark’s relationship so so much. one flesh, one end.
