I think it was a mistake getting this as an audiobook. There’s a lot of interesting info in it still, but there’s really no way to make the recipes interesting when they’re read out. Also the narrator’s enunciation was distracting and gave me an “uncanny valley” feel.

A great blend of funny, informative, and surprising. Something here for every reader - people who are interested in plants and gardening, people who are interested in spirits and cocktails, and people who are interested in history.

It’s a fine and enjoyable book, I put it with my cookbooks and will definitely look up recipes in it but I have too many other things I want to read right now.

Research for how culture spreads in ancient societies. A very good book with many interesting stories. Sometimes a little too cute, but the main problem is the way the information is organized. It is good for storytelling (story behind each drink) but hard to find the data later, at least that's my experience.

I did so much highlighting in this book. Lots of interesting facts and booze references I want to try.

I don't actually drink mixed drinks, but I enjoyed the science & scientific history of this book! Probably better as a book instead of audiobook, though-- lots of eyes glazing over during the recipe sections.

An audiobook format probably wasn't the best way to experience this book but I did still enjoy learning about the plants and history behind popular drinks. I'll probably end up buying the book to have easier access to the recipes and encyclopedic information.
