Since I have a whole year for the next book I have decided to write a longer review.
This book was awesome. I love dystopian novels. Maybe because it's the way I see how the world would end. I have a bad feeling about us. Humanity. I think somewhere along the road we lost ourselves and now we are just humans as something bad, not something good.
What I loved the most in this book (beside Deuce and Fade) is the fact how people from enclaves were thinking... it was really awesomely written. I loved the way Deuce was learning new things, new words, new facts. I loved the whole zombie idea, though I don't really like zombies.
It was like I am Legend for YA with much more action and breath-taking moments. When Deuce was hurt and Stalker called her dove, Fade's reaction was just... I stoped breathing. I also stoped breathing when he touched his lips to hers.
Fierce, sweet, great and amazing story is not enough to described the Enclave.

I thought this one was just okay. The narrator was semi-annoying and I didn't really get sucked into the story behind this novel. I got sick of hearing the word BRATS used for 'kids' and I didn't really care for the 'freaks' things. It was just a little strange. I kind of lump it in there with Across the Universe by Beth Revis. Mostly worth my time but not necessarily recommended. I may move on in the series though. We'll see!
LOVED this book. Great YA dystopian book with a little or the paranormal thrown in. Can't wait to get my hands on the next one.
so…there’s only one word to describe this book and that is AWESOME! — One thing i will complain about before i start is the header on the cover that says “For Fans of The Hunger Games” they need to take that shit OFF because this is a great book in its own right and deserves its own fans. i love the Hunger Games but this book doesn’t need that header…now moving on!
i guess I’ll start by saying Deuce is a bad ASS…now for some time ive been on a badass female protagonist kick. and she fits my criteria to a tee. The world is in post apocalyptic form…and i know, with all this talk of bath salts and zombies, reading a “zombie” book can be lame. but it’s not because…she wrote it in such a way that even though the zombies or “freaks” as they called them, are a prominent problem for the characters throughout the book….it doesn’t overshadow the real purpose of the story and that’s Deuce’s and Fade’s relationship and their strength and willingness to survive.
The book is written from Deuce’s point of view so you know what she knows…which isn’t much. And i’m still debating on whether or not that is intriguing or annoying. She was born into the world without ever having known what we know now. All she’s known is living in the subway channels [they’re in NYC] and fighting off the Freaks. It isn’t even until a couple of chapters into the book that you realize they’re in the subway and these ‘cars’ she keeps talking about is actually a train….
But i don’t know…i guess it kind of makes for a more interesting read. Because even though YOU know what certain things are….it’s still fascinating to discover thing and see them through her eyes….like the stars, which she thought were manmade lights flown up into the sky by humans who had wings…
i could go on and on but i won’t because there’s SO MUCH! all i can say is this book was AMAZING, hence the reason i devoured 85% of it TODAY!
oh yea….the world has been in post apocalyptic mode for quite some time so they don’t really know what certain things are, like cars, and just simple things. Some of them know how to read but they don’t know much about the past world to make much sense of what they were reading…and one thing i really liked that was funny is they have the whole
Thank You, You’re Welcome thing backwards….they use You’re Welcome as if it were Thank you and Thank You, as if it were, You’re welcome…
ie.
Person 1: Here’s a piece of fish
Person 2: You’re Welcome
Person 1: Thank You.
lmfao!

I could tolerate the first 2/3 of this book. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't a terrible way to kill time. The world building was cool and I figured I would at least give the second book a shot.
But then the main character accepted the leader of a rape gang into their group. She then constantly victim blamed another teenage girl who had been held captive by said gang for years. And to top it all off, Mr. Serial Rapist became a potential love interest for the main character. So basically, screw this book, it was terrible.

Dystopian future. Earth in peril. Tribes of people surviving in the underground subway tunnels of New York City. Welcome to Enclave.
Deuce has reached adulthood in her underground enclave on her 15th birthday--the day she receives her adult name and job. She is a huntress, and is paired up with Fade, a hunter who joined them after growing up Topside. The pair uncover danger from the Freaks during one of their hunting runs and are exiled for their discovery. Forced Topside, they have to learn to work as a team to survive.
Deuce and Fade make a great team. She is brave, but not unrealistically so, and is decently flawed. Fade, while taking the lead Topside, is smart enough to work with Deuce to help him survive as well. It's an interesting dynamic and the ending leaves you eagerly awaiting the next book.
Better than a lot of the standard YA dystopian fare out there. 3 1/2 stars.

I think this is a good story with a few twists and turns along the way. It kept my attention and really gives the impression the kids are grown-up. Similar to the Maze runner stories.
