Hypnotizing. Mind blowing, a book you won't want to stop reading.

After a tragic accident, Ruthie goes back to Alaska to live with her father and his new family. When she arrives she finds out her best friend, Zahra is missing, and Ruthie knows she is the only that can find her.

This book started out a little slow, with Ruthie getting to know Zahra's friends and how her life has been since she moved three years ago. But the pace quickly changes into a hunt to find her best friend before time runs out. I loved this book, a thriller that I won't soon be forgetting with a twist at the end that I didn't see coming. The story was well-plotted, written admirably and it pleasantly surprised me with where the story went.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ARC for me to read!

I feel like the last 65 pages or so was a completely different book! I saw NONE of that coming and I’m uneasy thinking about the first two-thirds now.

Absolutely amazed by this story. No spoilers, but WOW! I did not see that coming at all!!! Jennifer Donaldson has one of the most entertaining YA books of the year!

I read this in one day, which says a lot about the pacing and entertainment value of this book. I kind of figured out the twist early on, or at least had a feeling something was off with Ruthie herself, but I wasn't sure a YA book would actually go there. Only let down in this book for me was how it worked out after the reveal. I feel like it wasn't properly explained what was going on with the main character, how she got to that point, what did she actually remember? It makes sense that in Zahra's POV she's a monster, but it doesn't leave a lot of room for going deeper into the why and how of Ruthie and her issues. I wish the changing POV had happened later, cause I really wanted to know what was going on in her head during the confrontation. And I wanted to know more about how it affected her family in the aftermath as well.

*this book was given to me by the author to give an honest review*
I loved the mystery and went through this book fast. This book was one where I couldn’t stop flipping the pages. I was literally hooked from page 1. The ending blew my mind and it was super good. Something that you won’t expect to happen. At some parts I was confused about the story but that was probably because it was an arc and there are still things to be changed. I loved the characters and how they developed throughout the book. I didn’t have many problems with this book except with some confusing scenes. I recommend reading this book if you like mystery and thriller.

“Darkness is like that. It can make you tired and sad, or it can make the bright spots stick out even more.”

UGGGGHHHHHH

I read this all in one day. The whole time I was so impressed by how much I loved it. I was ready to give this 4+ stars and rave about it. And then the ending happened. And..... the entire book was ruined. Love that for me.

85% of the reading experience was wonderful but the whole book feels soured after finishing it. I don't know how to quantify a rating for that. But you know.... I guess I'll go with my trusty ole 3 stars on this.
