The story is really enjoyable. It's easy to follow despite having a relatively large POV-pool. I like all of the characters, I like the little subplot-romances that are slowly burning in the background.

this really doesn't fall into the general YA fantasy mold, that's pooular right now. the plot is epic but somehow low-key, the pace ist rather slow but that stems from the writing style that is so detached?
the book makes a lot more sense when you're aware that the author was inspired by LotR and wanted to write an hommage to that. it's not bad or anything, it's just really different in tone, pacing and execution from other YA fantasy books.

I literally could not put this book down! The last few chapters I could not read fast enough!!! Any fantasy love has to read this series! Beautifully written and I can not wait for the next book!!
3.5 / 5
this was both so much and so little at the same time, i don’t know how to put it. proper review to come.
tbr review:
i barely remember the first book, but i’m too lazy to reread so live and let live, right?

I am very critical when it comes to the second book in a trilogy but this was sooo action-packed throughout the whole book! Loved it! I read the first book a while back so I didn't remember a lot and it was quite hard to get back in, but it was worth it!
I just love a good fantasy! And I want Dom and (I listened to it...) Sarasa? To realize they actually like each other and can be there for each other and can go the distance together! I ship them so hard! I appreciate the hard-core fantasy aspects and the keeping everything pg-13.
I can also see the hints of the LOTR fangirl coming out, and I am here for it! Bring on book 3. I have to see how this ends!

My babies are all growing and changing right before my very eyes
I’m a big dumb dummy who really thought this book would be the last in the series. It is not. It is, however, so good. The relationships between these characters feel earned and have so much depth. I’m desperately sad to have to wait for the next one. If you’ve read Aveyard’s other series, you know that her books often end with big, dramatic reveals. If you’re like me and you can’t bear to wait between books, you might want to wait on this series until it’s all published. Or not. Because it’s great.
