I liked the first book a lot but this second installment was even better. The character relationships and world get really fleshed out. I love the dynamic between Sorasa and Domacridhan and they get so many good scenes together here. The stakes are high and the pacing is fantastic. The antagonists are fantastic. Quite the cliffhanger at the end, I'm excited to see how the trilogy ends in the next installment.

A HUGE thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins Children's Books for gifting me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Boy, did I think Red Queen was heart-wrenching. You've seen nothing yet. And Victoria Aveyard doesn't pull any punches. So, prepare for heartbreak.

It's a little hard to summarize this monstrosity of a book, without spoiling anything. But essentially, our lovely cast of heroes must truly band together to fight Queen Erida and Taristan’s forces. The only problem is a new threat lingers in the shadows, much more deadly than our heroes have ever faced.

OMG THAT ENDING. I need book three like right now! Otherwise I might just die. Prepare dear reader, for EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!

DID NOT FINISH

I give up. I tried the second, despite not living the first one, but there are just too many characters and no ONE to really care about.

41/100

Blade Breaker by Victoria Aveyard is a YA fantasy and the sequel to Realm Breaker. With the title being released of book 3, I finally decided to read book 2.

This book starts immediately after the first and doesn't miss a beat. Our fmc, along with her crew of assasins, an immortal, a scribe, and a witch continue on their journey to stopping a queen, her consort, and a wizard from destroying the realm.

Blade Breaker gives you a high stakes quest, action, prophecies, and the chosen one. Our lovely assasin wins this one for me. She overshadowed all the characters, even the fmc.

Although you get hints of romance brewing, you will not find spice in these books. Fans of epic fantasies will enjoy this one!

Blade Breaker honestly could have been an adult novel rather than a young adult novel. In fact, the entire series could have been an adult series. This book in particular, was mostly just the characters coping from the last book, and then them walking to a different place to chat to other people about how much they needed to stop Corayne's aunt and uncle.

This series seems to have an extra 75 pages or so every book, filled with details and metaphors that were not necessary in terms of advancing the plot.

3/5 stars.

Somehow better than the first book?!?! This book’s got everything: a dragon, fire hounds, a skeleton army, a non-binary character, a slow burn romance, a witch that keeps appearing at the perfect moments, and enemies-to-lovers… what else could you ask for?

I’m still reeling.

The stakes are higher than ever and Corayne is more alone than ever at the end of this book. I can’t believe I have to wait another year to find out what happens to Allward. What Waits doesn’t know what’s coming for him! The Companions better reunite quickly to save the realm! I’m obsessed. I already know this is going to be one of my favorite fantasy series ever and it’s not even over yet.
