This was a mixed bag for me this time. I really enjoyed Realm Breaker and was excited for the series.
However, Blade bogged down in so many places. Most of the book read like empty filler, simply written for page count.
I really dislike Erida and found myself skimming her chapters. Same song on repeat: drunk on power, kill everyone who doesn’t yield, and my man is so hot

As many trilogies go, this one held all the vibes of a second book in a trilogy. Many questions were answered, and more plot lines were to further the overarching plot, but I felt less attached to the characters in this book than I did in the first one. I hope that gets rectified as I read the third. As an avid reader of Victoria Aveyard, it is not surprising that I enjoy reading the villain's POV more so than the group of Companions. Erida is such a power house character that I almost want to root for her as she continues to take over kingdoms and collect crowns. What a boss bitch. I also love a man who is happy being the queen's consort rather than plotting for the crown himself. What a man.

This book isn’t bad, but not very good either. Everything is just executed a little poorly. The character development, the plot, the writing, etc. Everything is alright, but this book isn’t a pageturner for me. It has nothing new and nothing to make it special. I do think it’s a bit better than the first book, especially the pacing. But I’m not sure if I’ll continue the series. However, I did enjoy it enough to give it 3 stars.

Ms. Aveyard!!!! This is so rude to make a world that’s so cool and good and amazing and then only give us THREE books within it!!
This one was better than the first in the series...but not by much. There were more plot twists in this one, at least, which helped keep me drawn into the story and invested in the characters. Unfortunately I still found it pretty meh - in comparing it to the Red Queen series, it's just lackluster.
I'm not sure if I'll read the next book once it's released, but I might just to see how this series ends. And hope that the new one finally has something worth reading.
This series is a good baby step into YA, I would say; but honestly pretty forgetful considering the other novels are out there in the genre.

So far both of these are in the high 3’s but I just can’t give them 4’s. There were parts that were just boring and other parts I couldn’t put the book down. I don’t think I’m much of fan of the genre of a band of friends going across the realm on a quest unless the dialogue is amazing which it isn’t in this, it’s just ok. There was slightly (very very slightly) more romance in this book. I think that’s what this book is missing more banter between everyone and more romance.

It feels like a romantasy without much romance, which is somehow still different than regular fantasy. A lot of quests to save the world with a band of "misfits"
