Very Lord of the Rings vibe from this installment, ends on a cliffhanger. Sorasa stands out in this installment. I’ve decided Erida might be the biggest villain aside from the unseen What Waits that hangs off in the background. Zombies, dragons, fire creatures versus man and very dew elves. Wondering how Corayne’s mom is going to fit back into the plot since there was such a tense scene constructed between she and Mel.

Like the first book, I found the characters and world-building more interesting than the plot. This time around, though, we got more of a look at how influential politics is in the world and how it forced certain choices. And the character dynamics are so fun and enjoyable - I loved getting to see them grow closer as their adventure continued. Still, the slower pace of the plot kept this book from being a four-star read for me.
