The second in the Realm Breaker series follows immediately on from the first book after one Spindle is closed but the search is on for the next. It's a race to close the Spindles Taristan opens before they wreak havoc on all of Allward, and the realm's only hope - Corayne - must embark on a long journey to find the next Spindle while Erida and Taristan storm across the realm.

I found the first half of this book quite slow and laborious, there wasn't much going on and I think the first half could have been completely rewritten to make for a more interesting read. I didn't care for the Falcons and Isadere - they didn't add anything to the story and it just dragged on. The part with Meliz was a bit tedious as well, again drawn out when it need not have even been mentioned. At least Erida's sections were more interesting but it took a while for these parts to pick up too.

The second half was better, particularly when Erida started showing more of her villainous self and the Companions finally found the Spindle. However the Spindle scene was over quite quickly like it was in the first book - I do find that in this series some parts which could be brief are poured over and some parts that could be more detailed are over quite swiftly.

There are constant hints of some romance between certain characters but nothing ever develops so I wonder why bothering alluding to it? I think adding in some romance if it's going to be suggested would be welcomed, or just don't bother mentioning it at all. Corayne does go through some character development in this second book, as does Sorasa and these are the most interesting of all the characters, followed by Dom but I feel like his full potential hasn't been reached yet. Sigil and Charlie are my least favourites out of the Companions and I wouldn't really be bothered if something happened to them in the end. Andry could do with some development because he's quite unvaried in his chapters and I would like to see more from him - see a less two-dimensional character.

Something is lacking with the main characters because I don't really feel for any of them bar Sorasa who seems to be the only one we see different aspects to as she goes through an ordeal in this book. Erida is more entertaining to read about as she edges closer and closer towards darkness and monstrosity. Taristan and Ronin felt a little less imposing in this sequel, particularly Ronin, acting more mundane rather than remaining an enigma.

It didn't feel like this book had a clear direction, particularly with the first half as I said. There wasn't enough drama and action in the first half. I just wanted more from this book - I love the idea of it but I wasn't gripped reading this story and I want to be mesmerised and on the edge of my seat! Unfortunately it is quite easily put down with a little motivation needed to carry on, especially with that first half. I do hope it picks up in the third book - I like this story enough to want to know how it ends but I'm not exhilarated reading it.

So good!! Has everything I’d ever want and more. Dragons and the undead. The companions bring back the vibe of the fellowship in Lord of the Ring! Can’t wait for book 3
