It’s a re-read. Reminded me so much of Darcy and Elizabeth again. I wonder if we will get a new adaptation of this book too.

It was good but the language was really difficult to read and led me to a reading slump. I work off also day that the book skipped over big points but then deleted too long on the small points

i was mostly drawn to this book for its social themes, and i still consider those to be its best aspect. the rest of the book unfortunately didn't quite match the expectations i formed prior to reading, and i found the frequent jane austen comparison to be especially misleading. maybe if your favourite part of austen's works is just the bare outline of her romance plots, and not her wit, clever characterisation, or anything else regarding her style?

the writing was in fact what i struggled with the most here- it felt distinctly unrefined, and at moments even a bit silly. especially the dialogues, in which the characters (or rather the author) have the tendency to say everything outright, and in a painfully artificial manner.

there were also a lot more discussions of religion than i care to read about, so maybe this just wasn't for me.
