This book is 900 times less annoying than most early chapter books with female protagonists. Lola is thoughtful without being flawless, playful, likes sports, has a male best friend, and has a range of interests and friends. The book also features diverse characters without using stereotypes or emphasizing it.

Read this book for a third grade book club.
This book was perfectly fine. It had some amusing bits. Recommended for 2nd-4th graders.
This is adorable, and I'm so glad I was right guessing that this would be a great book to pair with Ramona Quimby, age 8 for my children's literature class.
Lola Levine is Not Mean is a great easy chapter book. Lola is a strong character. She is her own person and she doesn't let her peers define who she is. One of the lessons a reader gets from this story is that we don't all have to be alike or like the same things. I also liked how in the end her friend stood up for her.

For my 3rd & 4th grade students- Lola Levine is a half-Peruvian, half- Jewish 2nd grader. Her little brother Ben is in Kindergarten. Lola’s parents are creative and supportive of their children- mom is a writer, dad is a painter. Lola and Ben love soccer and are very talented. After super competitive Lola accidentally injures a classmate during a recess soccer game, classmates start calling her “Mean Lola Levine.” Lola accepts responsibility for her actions and her best friend Josh Blot sticks up for her, so everything works out in the end.
Lola is absolutely delightful! A female soccer star who’s not ashamed of her love for sports or writing or anything. This is one of those chapter books where I felt the MC’s parents were well developed! Loved and would recommend esp. for any soccer-loving kids!
Move over Jasmine Toguchi (Fancy Nancy and Judy Moody)! We have a new favorite kids chapter book character to love. Can’t wait to read more!
