I absolutely loved this book from stat to finish. my favourite book I've read so far this year. I can't wait to read it again. Absolutely a masterpiece! If you want to get into classics, this is a great one to get you started. This was perfect book for me personally because I love character studies, dissents into madness, dark themes, and problematic/hate-able main characters. If you vibe with any of those things, you'll love this book. I found it to be very tense and I was intrigued throughout the book.

This is an amazing character study, down to the smallest details, of a rural family drama and feud, it would even have been tragic if not for the main characters being aged 13 to the "ripe old age" of 27.
A great book to have with oneself for fine, calm evenings.

45 pages in before the book even starts. The before pages are an introduction to the story - which having read I now feel like I don’t really need to read the rest of the book.
