This book is as gritty as gargling dirt! It is incredibly hard for me to fathom that this is a first novel by this author. Definitely my top read of 2022 thus far!! There were many, many OH MY GOD moments that had my heart accelerating and my stomach knotted. We get multiple point of view's but it was very easy to follow and they were all necessary. This whole story stems from an incident way back when and the aftermath lasts generations. This is not for the faint of heart! If I could rate this 5 1/2 stars I would. Best book of 2022 so far.

Very well done. A dark, but engrossing tale of an outlaw family on its inevitable confrontation with its "black sheep" son who has become the local sheriff. The characters are well-crafted, the plot delightfully twisting, and the dialog crisp and real.

One word of caution - pay attention to the year noted at the beginning of each chapter. I didn't realize the book spanned such a large length of time and I temporarily thought two characters (who share the same name, but are from different generations) were just one. Had to go back and reread a few chapters once I realized my error.

One brother is the head of a gang of drug running outlaws that have called Bull Mountain home since his Grandfather built his first still. The other is a sheriff in a small Georgia town at the base of Bull Mountain who tries to help the good people in his town while trying to also convince them and himself that he is nothing like the rest of his family. Pitting brother against brother, this masterfully written saga of crime, family, land and vengeance, kept me riveted to the last surprising page. Bull Mountain is raw and violent and bold. Deeply rooted in the North Georgia Mountains, where drugs and moonshine have been the families’ source of income for seven decades, this debut author has a real winner... and we’ve got a new southern fiction writer.

3.7/5 stars. It was a decent enough read, but I don't necessarily think I was the target audience. I will try the next in the series.

I usually don't write reviews because I never know what to say, but this book kept me on the edge of my seat until I finished it. So many twists and turns in this book!

Oh, this was a good one. I listened to the audiobook, and not only was the narration perfect for the gritty tale, but the novel had me hooked in the first 15 minutes. It was edgy but tinted with a dry humor that had me rolling a couple of times (especially the blow-up doll prank/robbery) and the family drama was done so well- more Hatfield and McCoy, less reality TV. Honestly, it'd be a great recommendation for fans of Yellowstone, or Sons of Anarchy. I liked it so much, I even recommended it to people I know who don't like to read, lol, because it's so gripping!
