3.5 stars

3.5 stars. How this world was conceived and put so expertly into novel form I don’t think I’ll ever comprehend. What an achievement this series is. I’m genuinely impressed by every entry so far.

As to the negative, I’ve finally figured out what I don’t really care for in Erikson’s prose. All too often characters make large “leaps of intuition” I’ll call them. They’ll react to a situation or respond to a comment in a way that makes me question why they’d do that or how they’d know that. And frankly it really irks me. And his style in general is a bit too enigmatic for my liking. He could spell things a little more and I certainly wouldn’t mind. All that being said, I still love this series and will absolutely continue. It will sadly probably never be my favorite though

Definitely my least favorite of the series so far.
As much as I like, adore actually, the worldbuilding, Erikson's prose and the scope of the series, I continue to struggle in engaging with the characters.

The way Erikson conveys his characters feel incredibly stiff and contrived to me. They just don't feel like people to me. It's hard to put into words but the characters feel like puppets, lacking a certain aspect of Humanity for me to sympathize and get invested in them.

At this point I'm not sure if Erikson is a writer for me.
