It's a YA book so I'm not really the intended audience. I was looking for something easy but inadvertently chose something hard to get through because it was a little too YA for me. I have a real problem with being able to dnf books/series - I definitely need to work on allowing myself to do that.

Book is fine, I feel like a queer middle schooler would really enjoy this and I hope it's easily available for that crowd.

NOT ENOUGH PINING!!!! if you're going to write the slowest of all slowburns i expect more pining. HOWEVER. i loveddddd this continuation of the plot from the first book. it felt like a very natural progression without being predictable. there were a few moments that seemed unrealistic, but overall i liked it. very good character development, and i LOVED seeing ayla be treated so well and crier having to really experience hardship for the first time. overall i enjoyed the general relationship dynamics in the first book (there was more pining) and a few parts of the ending seemed Too perfect, Too Happily Ever After for a series filled with so much suffering and so many realistic depictions of war, which is why i'm rating this lower, but i still thoroughly enjoyed and thought it was a great sequel.

Lovely story! Although, I wasn't a big fan of the narrator. I know the main characters are young but the baby voice that the narrator uses makes them sound like 10 year old which doesn't match the story.

Wish it was a trilogy! The ending was really sweet and pretty happy, which I honestly needed at the time
