As an adult, it's a quick read and I enjoyed it. I feel like it needed an epilogue because it ended very abruptly. A lot of sad/bad things happen so I would recommend it for 11/12 and up and even then it would probably beat be read together because they probably wouldn't understand a lot that happens.

Really good middle school book about the abuse of a young English horse-loving girl with a club foot in WWII Britain. Insightful story of evacuation of London children to the country. Addresses grief and PTSD including helpful models of good care for panic disorder are woven into the story.

This book was one of the first books that I enjoyed to read. The main character, Ada has endured much trauma, and her struggles are depicted realistically. None of the characters in this book are black and white. It is hard to see some events in the book as good or bad; the book is a constant grey area. I would recommend looking at the trigger warnings.

I absolutely adored this book. It broke my heart, but it mended every little piece back together in the end. This is a beautiful depiction of trauma that had me highlighting so many resonant lines. While some of the abuse is hard to read about, the bulk of this book is heartwarming and worth wading through the deep waters.

Wow! This book was beyond what I could have imagined! Ada’s story was heartbreakingly beautiful and the contrast between her life and the war was so well done. 10/10 would recommend. Buying a copy for my grandma and another for my 4th grade niece.
