I enjoyed this book (and Chopsticks by the same author). Poor spoon feels like the other cutlery have more exciting lives than he. Cute story about self-assurance.
I love this tale about being thankful for the unique things you can do - and not always wishing you had someone else's life. Lovely illustrations and fun language.
A real cute book with a good message. Spoon compares himself to other utensils and feels they are all "luckier" than him but his parents help him find ways to see that he is lucky too.
A teacher asked for me to do a lesson involving confidence and this book seems to fit the bill. The spoon wants to be other utensils and then finds out that they want to be just like him. This is a good lesson that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. I am interested to see how the book goes over with the students though.
Age: Preschool - 2nd grade
"Spoon has always been a happy little utensil. But lately he feels like life as a spoon just isn't cutting it. He thinks Fork, Knife, and Chopsticks all have it so much better than him. But do they? "Spoon" serves as a gentle reminder to celebrate what makes each child special" (Goodreads feature review).
A delightful subject for young children interested in their surroundings. After Spoon's parents reassure him of all the things he can do, he lies in bed unable to sleep due to his excitement. That is, until "there was only one thing to do"...to spoon! One of the cutest endings to a book, perfectly executed.

While I love Chopsticks and Spork more, I enjoyed this cute book about a spoon who's envious of the other cutlery.
A cute bedtime story. Nothing earth-shattering, but rhythmic and short enough.
Spoon wants to be unique like fork, chopstick and/or knife. what he doesn't know is that his friends are jealous of him. At the end, he spoons with his parents
delightful -- pictures and text
spoon is jealous of his friends (knife gets to cut -- so cool)
but doesn't realize all the special things he gets to do (like dive into a bowl of ice cream)
love his "adventurous great-grandmother, who fell in love with a dish and ran off to a distant land"
great fun for preschool storytimes -- on food, or a who am I? type theme
