I picked up this book mainly because it had to do with an author being a ghostwriter. But there was something about this book that I did not like. I don't know if it was that every time she met with Grayson he basically blew her off or cut their meeting short or what. I did like the flashback aspect though. I also wasn't a fan of Sabrina and Ian not being truthful to each other in the beginning and then Sabrina getting mad at Ian for not telling her the truth. Um, she did the same thing! But I will say the twist or surprise at the end with Grayson really made me gasp!

There's nothing as magical as the Plaza at Christmas and that certainly was the case with this book. I loved how we had multiple threads in the story that all seemed to wind together in the end. I remember watching Eloise at the Plaza so I really enjoyed the references to the author and story. This book painted a great picture of New York and especially the Plaza at Christmas. It makes me want to book a vacation to spend the holidays there.

A Magical New York Christmas was an impulse pick up at my library. A love story with mistaken identity and a second timeline of a lost love are the main themes.

Present day NYC, Sabrina is a struggling freelance writer who takes on a ghostwriting role for Grayson, a famous art dealer. While staying at the Plaza, she meets Ian, the private secretary to Lord Baxter (Spencer). Ian mistakes Sabrina for a rich businesswoman and she mistakenly thinks he is an English Lord. Through flashbacks, Grayson tells how he met the author of Eloise and lost-love Veronica.

What I liked: This felt like a love story to New York City and it was neat to “see” the city at Christmas. The story read a bit like a fairytale - borrowing fabulous jewels and designer gowns, dinners in fancy restaurants, and galas.

What didn’t work for me: The story felt long. So many times, I wanted Grayson to get to the point of his story or Ian and Sabrina to just tell each other the truth.

Spencer seems so over the top - falling in love at a moments notice and then lavishing random women with presents.

Who should read it: If you’re looking for a clean romance/ode to New York City.

Recomendo a leitura!

I was surprised by this one. It was a really cute story and I enjoyed it quite a lot. Cute story.

This is really probably a 4.5 for me. I really wish we could do half stars on Goodreads! LOL! I didn't give it a 5 just because it was a little too sweet (Hallmark-y), but I'm also not sure how I would change it.

I LOVED that the book took place in NYC over Christmas and now I absolutely want to make a trip there sometime in December in the coming years. I also really enjoyed the historical fiction piece with the Plaza Hotel and the back story of Kay Thompson. My youngest daughter loved the Eloise books when she was young. So it was fun to read about her time there.

I didn't love Sabrina, Ian, or Spencer as characters. There were times that each of them annoyed me. I think that is what kept me from giving this book 5 stars. The city, the hotel, and the supporting characters and their stories really were what made this book!

had me going up until the 70% mark but i got quite tired and bored of the miscommunication trope. i think both had mistakes but only ian apologized. also don’t really have much emotional connection to most characters so i’m a bit eh. the writing was quite nice and the plot was interesting though. the character development was also done quite nicely and in a unique way.
