What a perfect book to start the holiday season! I loved everything about it. It had all the feels of a Hallmark Christmas Movie!

I really had high hopes for this one, mainly because it had Christmas and New York in the title. The setting mostly took place at The Plaza which was phenomenal. I've been to New York at Christmas time and it really is magic so adding The Plaza to that just brought it up a notch.

An everyday girl moves into The Plaza to ghost write for someone and ends up meeting a special someone but identities get mixed up and the misadventures begin.

In the first part of the book, I was swept away and it was very atmospheric. The trouble, for me, started when a lie was told. This lie did set up a good storyline but it took way too to long to get to the truth and just made the book too long.

I thought the narration was good. She definitely caught the wonderment of NYC at Christmas in the characters dialogue.

This book was so hard to get through, If I didn’t have to finish it for a book club I wouldn’t have finished. I disliked everything about this from the characters to the story. The only good thing was that I love NYC at Christmas.

What do you do when you are in a rain and wind storm in Nova Scotia looking at all the brown? You pretend you are in snowy New York watching rich people be merry in the Plaza Hotel. This is a true soft romance, the kind of thing that fairy tales are made of, not a lot of back story but a lot of scene setting. Was a sweet read! Spice level: warm kisses.

The Plaza is a magical place at Christmas. This book sums up the location perfectly. I wonder if this story is going to be a ‘Hallmark’ Christmas movie?

I wasn’t expecting much from this book: just a sweet rom com set in New York at Christmas. And that’s what it is, replete with the misunderstandings and miscommunications typical of the genre.

What makes this a one star book is our heroine, Sabrina. For most of the book, she prattles on to herself about her predicament with Ian. How would he feel about her if he found out the truth: that she wasn’t a wealthy businesswoman who could afford to plunk down exorbitant amounts of money for a suite at the Plaza, not to mention sparkly baubles from one of its exclusive shops? Wouldn’t he surely dump her if he knew that she was a struggling writer who could barely afford to buy a hot dog from a street vendor?

And yet, when Ian finally comes clean and tells her the truth about himself, Sabrina climbs up on her high horse and clutches her pearls. “He LIED! He LIED about EVERYTHING!”

Uh, yeah, bitch. So did you!

What’s worse is that no one—not even Ian—calls her out on it, so she’s free to travel the moral high road to her happily ever after.

Blech.

Please note that I received this via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review.

I found this delightful. It really put me in the mood for some snow (I am tired of rain!) and warm fires and hot chocolate. Hughes hit the right note of nostalgia in this book and had me rooting for the two love interests (Sabrina and Ian).

"A Magical New York Christmas" follows Sabrina (she's a ghostwriter) and Ian (he's an assistant/general get him out of trouble to a rich and moneyed British aristocrat). Sabrina is down to her last little bit of money when she gets an assignment to help a famous art dealer Grayson Westcott write his memoirs. We find out quickly that Grayson used to be a white gloved butler at The Plaza Hotel and he knew the author of the Eloise books, Kay Thompson. With flashbacks to how Grayson met the famous authoress and how she helped shape his life, we have Sabrina starting to make some changes to her life as well. And some of them include Ian.

I really enjoyed Sabrina and Ian. Nothing much to say here beyond that. I liked how the flashbacks were looped into the present and I honestly want to really really stay at The Plaza Hotel. It was a nice slow burn romance. I have never read the Eloise books, so it was an interesting look into Kay Thompson as well.

The story takes place at The Plaza Hotel which feels a little like The North Pole for adults.

This is definitely a solid Christmas romance for readers out there who want something to put them into the holiday mood.

Wow. While I was reading this book, my partner said to me, "why do you look so angry?" Which I think sums up my relationship with it quite well.

I picked it up on a whim because I wanted a light, Christmas themed read, with the bonus that it was set in NYC. I was sorely disappointed. This book was pretty bad. I hated the entire concept of the miscommunication which only got solved in the last 20 pages. They instantly forgive each other, of course, and live happily ever after. Uh, what?

I thought this book was overly ambitious and had way too much going on. Pick a plot line! Not five that are poorly managed and connected! I liked the descriptions, but at times there were too many and it dragged on. I hated all the assumptions the characters made about each other. I disliked how whiny and pretentious they all were, yet somehow poor and disadvantaged at the same time. Overall, a potentially decent concept with poor execution.
