I really liked the idea of SD1118 and I found that to be the most interesting part of the book. However, once Lucy was given her assignment, things went downhill. I found Nola to be so despicable that I ended up skimming the rest of the book, and then when Lucy found the lump on Tulip, I started skimming faster.

I found the plot to be a bit contrived, but I guess in a story about ghosts and hauntings, the "white light" bit will always be mentioned.

The last few lines of the book made me bawl like a baby.

I liked Laurie Notaro's memoirs[b:The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club: True Tales from a Magnificent and Clumsy Life|7531|The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club True Tales from a Magnificent and Clumsy Life|Laurie Notaro|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1227925502s/7531.jpg|514237] and [b:We Thought You Would Be Prettier: True Tales of the Dorkiest Girl Alive|7533|We Thought You Would Be Prettier True Tales of the Dorkiest Girl Alive|Laurie Notaro|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1165627292s/7533.jpg|1199330], which are witty, sarcastic, confessional and silly. I don't think her style translates to novel format as well. That being said, I still enjoyed this, but I think that Notaro doesn't show so much as tell, and her character's backgrounds are told through a series of reminisces and tangents that sometimes confuse. Her ideas about the afterlife are pretty neat though, and I like the idea of a ghostly training class to teach haunting!

Meh. Moderately well-written. Moderately interesting premise. Moderately predictable storyline and conclusion.

Overall: unsatisfying. Sort of like eating a hollow chocolate easter rabbit. Somehow left me feeling like there should have been more... substance.

This was a fun, entertaining, quick read - a good palate cleanser after reading Freedom. I always enjoy books that present some new fun vision of the afterlife.

This was my first Notaro. Being drawn to funny and supernatural, I thought it would be a perfect introduction, even though I understood that it would be different from her "essays." Overall, Meh.

The book is good enough, interesting enough, and original enough to keep you reading, and pretty quickly. It did not, however, in any way impress me. But it was enough to pass the time.

The book starts with Lucy, the protagonist, who has a terrible day and then, to top it all off, dies. She ends up in Ghost School where she will need to learn the tricks of the trade, and then apply them to determine how she moves on. The idea is intriguing and has a fun spin to it, but, in the end, it fell a little flat. It was hard to care a whole lot about ... well, any of the characters. They were amusing enough but, again, didn't leave any lasting impressions.

Nevertheless, I would recommend to Notaro fans and people looking for a light, quick read.

Getting tired of the same old, ho-hum ghost stories? Want a good, wacky mystery? A healthy dose of humor?

This was a really fun book. I would love it if this is what the after-life turns out to be.

It's cute but boring. The writing felt a little amateurish for me.

Despite sounding like a very depressing premise, Laurie Notaro's Spooky Little Girl is fantastic and funny and very hard to put down. It does wind up having a slightly predictable ending, but if it had been any different it would've been very upsetting...
