I have mixed feelings about this book but I think overall it's an entertaining read. The possessive "mine" alpha male is almost always a win and this one def had me coming back for more. Fawn felt very realistic in her mannerisms and reactions to things which made me able to sink into the story more.

I say this with so much love and affection; this book was a wreck!
This is a duo and my dumb ass only bought the first one.
This book was not for the faint of heart. It gave no trigger warnings!!
However I will say it was captivating as hell. Clay is now in competition with Josh from ‘lights out’ on who is the best book boyfriend/husband. Both have very similar personalities but what Josh lacks is brute force. Animalistic rage. Josh is athletic and into primal play (consensually). Meanwhile clay is an actual killer, he has so much blood on his hands and he won’t hold back if it means keeping fawn safe <3
Maybe I’m just down bad for Clay because I too wish to have someone there to protect me from my assault. Fuck it I’d accept revenge and rage as an acceptable response nowadays.
Fawn, my little deer, you truly deserve more than what you were given in your lifetime. The emotions given to her character were too real. As an avid kid hater (don’t want any of my own) I had no right to be so distraught regarding the miscarriage. I won’t lie, I personally had to put down the book, stop the audiobook, blow my nose, and wipe my eyes 10 times. I ran out of tissues, I thought I was going to have to use a sock from how much snot was running down my face from ugly crying. Then to kick me while I’m down Lee goes and gives Fawn the SD drive so now she has the full truth of what happened to get her pregnant in the first place.
Fawn, sweet baby girl, some times being oblivious is a good thing. I constantly spiral about the things in my life that never got a conclusion and it fucking sucks. My sorrows however have not been this bad. I can definitely place myself in fawns shoes when it comes to the humiliation, mistreatment, and abuse from others (mainly men). That’s what made this so gut wrenching to read.
The vivid memories of being a deer in the headlights, not knowing who or what to trust. The hopelessness of needing steady ground but you’re stranded, left alone to keep yourself a float. The people who you trusted, or in our case the person you trusted abusing their power over your body to ‘take claim’
I will be placing an order for book two immediately when I go to work on Tuesday 😭😭

He infantializes her soooooo much and it is fucky creepy. Shes an object to him and nothing more.
I don't have an issue with age gaps as long as the youngest character is developed enough. The whole thing felt gross

I almost put the book down when it stated they were the mafia in Australia. I couldn’t take it seriously, but I decided to push through and give the book a chance.
I didn’t like the age gap. She’s 18 and he’s 35. I feel like the book would have been better if she was 20. The author could have slightly change the story to say she was in college when the incident happened and the age difference would have been less creepy.
I also don’t like how naive Fawn was. She was in the foster care system since she was 10. You would think she would be more skeptical and less trusting of people. But no she was trusting towards her everybody: her foster brothers, Clay, Jasmine and everyone else. Even when people were clearly shady asf. Like seriously it’s a wonder she made it to 18.
The plot was obvious by the first chapter I already knew what happened to her. Though I did find the premise of the book interesting; a pregnant teenage girl looking for dad who was in the mafia and running into the enemy who’s trying to kill her dad.
