I picked this book up because of TikTok! I wasn’t expecting much and was somehow still disappointed.
For a dark romance the plot felt clunky and boring. The story centred around Fawn this young abused girl who has had no luck in life, for someone brought up in the system she is still this naive innocent thing that has no clue how the world works, when her foster brother is murdered she hunts down her Mafia father but instead find Clay who is 10 years older than her and instantly becomes obsessed. The spicy scenes felt forced and seemed like they were just used to keep the word count up. It was a poor depiction of an age-gap dark romance.

I was 60% ish through the book but I had to DNF. It wasn’t the fact that the book wasn’t good, I was actually really enjoying it but I kinda fell out of the mood for this books genre. I will definitely pick this book up again and finish it when I’m in the mood again. So 1⭐️ is not my official rating as of now

3.5 rounded up to a 4. it's pretty decent, especially if you are in the mood for a dark very spicy romance, an Instagram reel got me to read this book and I'm already downloading the next one if that helps to describe what I thought.. I appreciate that I could jump in here in the middle of the series and didn't need to read from the beginning to understand the "plot".. IYKYK

IDK how to rate this one - this book isn't kidding about being dark in places, but I can't help but want to keep going with it.

Daddy issues, hello???

I'm kind of torn between a three- and four-star rating, but ended up siding with the latter because, well I mean, Nicci Harris really did come through with what she offered in the book description lol. This was an entertaining read—a lot more angst and nuance here, probably because the main characters are actually more complex and intriguing than those in the first book of this series.

I truly came away adoring Fawn, the FMC, more than anyone else in the book. Perhaps cynics and modern girl-bosses who need to have the descriptor "badass" in FMC's character traits before even giving them a chance will roll their eyes at her, but her vulnerability and tenderness are what made her shine despite everything life threw her way at such a young age. And to see that softness juxtaposed with the personality of Clay, the MMC, was captivating. I couldn't stop wanting to turn the pages to see what on earth was gonna happen at the end of every conversation as both got used to each other.

Also, as a side note, one thing I've noticed—with just two books under my belt—about Nicci Harris (or maybe just this series?) is that she tends to repeatedly overdo the smut... In my humble opinion! Sex is great and all, but idk, I don't think it's a requirement in every chapter at least.

All in all, it's a dark romance book that lives up to what the genre is all about with additional thriller/suspense influences.

Def gonna check the sequel just to see how Fawn's story ends (and how much Clay is whipped)!
