Things were tense in this one and while I know that the first part of this was a deep breath before the plunge, I never wanted Casca and Guts' moments to end. Ugh.

Just going to keep going with this, but it was by far one of the more brutal volumes so far.

Same critisms persist to the point where I cried for Casca at the end of this volume. He has put her - Guts as well, but Casca more pointedly - through so much during this portion and I was devastated. But... holy shit. Miura's art shines in these volumes, especially during the Eclipse. He manages to make you feel dread at the sight of his art. I am so excited to meet my favorite characters sooooon.

I did enjoy this volume as it is now finally reaching the head of the past. The story is a little heart wrenching in this volume, starting out hopeful and ending on a more grim note. I will say that there are some scenes I was not expecting to be drawn out. Understanding that this is a dark fantasy manga, I would be weary entering this and not expecting some disturbing scenes (EX: the sexual assault and torture), though it was a bit unsettling for me seeing these parts. Beyond that however, the artwork is impeccable as always the story is gripping. I am enjoying everyone’s character development and more of the side characters get their spotlight moment it seemed (Judeau is one of my favorites). It is very hard to put these down, but I have to read these slowly or else I would finish them way too quickly. I would definitely recommend these but would give fair warning in doing so. I would skip over pages 257 - 263 and 356 -360 in this volume for anyone who wants to read but skip over some of the more “difficult” pages with Wyald. Won’t miss a whole lot by skipping them as far as I could tell. I hope this review helps someone!
