3.38 AVERAGE

This seemed like it was written by a lovesick, clingy teenager.

This was a good collection of poetry. It was uplifting and highly focused on the empowerment of women.

I look forward to reading the other two collections in this series.

I would recommend this collection to fans of micropoetry.

Okay, here's the thing with this book.

I calculated the amount of poems I flagged against the total number of pages in the book, and it came down to about 8%. Eight. That's it. And granted, the ones I tabbed weren't for excellence or brilliance or something magnificent and new, they were just light reminders for me when I'm feeling down and unlovable. And to that degree, and for someone feeling that way, this book works. It's simple. All of the poems have a common theme, and if you're feeling caught in a place away from self love and feeling alone, I do think reading this could be refreshing.

But... some of the poems had wording that confused me. One in particular made no sense at all. And a lot of the book felt ignorantly sexist. It almost felt as if I needed this man to complete me. I truly don't believe these were the author's intentions, but at times it came across this way. I know he was trying to point as if there were men that were worthy of her love or whatever he says, but what if I love myself, and that's enough? I'm not sure I have the right voice or words to explain how this book felt partially almost distant from what it was trying to be. I hope you can kind of understand.

TLDR; In a hard place, this book is a quick read. Poems won't stop you dead in your tracks, but can be a reminder if you need one that you are loved.

Bland. Religious. Hetero.

I really enjoyed the poetry in this book i can't wait to read vol 2.

I marked a lot of the poems I like, and took to be good. But I agree with a lot of the other reviews that it is repetitive and sometimes left me feeling “ehh

I love love love her, and her 2. I feel modern day poetry can’t ever have less than 5 stars. Almost everything is so relatable. Pierre Alex Jeanty is one of my top 10 poets, always amazing work ♥️

2 stars = it was okay. Not bad. There were a lot of poems that I did like and related to. I also really enjoyed the illustrations (minus one). Overall, I don't think I understand what his point is. I guess that's why you relate to some of the poems and not others? I got the feeling from this book that the main goal in life for women is to be loved by a perfect man. 1. That is not the goal in life for women. 2. There is no perfect man. People should not have unrealistic expectations for their partners.

A few of the poems reminded me of God and how God's love is perfect and unconditional, so I really liked that.

This is one of the poetry books I browsed at Fullybooked. I was hooked at first, the author has a good and easy writing style but it's getting redundant and the poems are forgettable. I don't know if it's just me, I interpreted this collection on what men desire in women. Honestly, I was taken back to some poems. It's like telling me what women should be to become lovable. This blows off a woman's self-esteem when it should be empowering.

A woman is lovable for the way she is. She doesn't need your fucking standards to be desirable. You are not worthy of her love. She can stand her ground with or without you. Respect her wants and needs. I am really sorry, I just dislike this book.

She is looking
for a man
who will devote
less time questioning
why there are walls
around her heart
and more time
jumping,
climbing,
breaking,
doing whatever is necessary
to get through those walls.
