Okay so hear me out - book 1 is a *better book* than book 2, but I *enjoyed* book 2 more. That fckn cliffhanger tho.

A well-paced and engaging read! These guys don’t have a clue how to write women but this is easy to just laugh at and ignore because the story is so interesting (and kudos to them for including so many women at all and for giving them meaningful roles in the story!)

I liked the first book better by a small margin, but man, the ending to this one was a mindf*ck. Very excited for book 3!

A very enjoyable sequel that keeps up the pace of the first book and raises the stakes slightly. Looking forward to  reading more. Slightly missed the noir detective vibe from the first one.

TW/CW: a man’s young child is kidnapped, and he deals with the likelihood that she is dead. Detailed descriptions of his thoughts.

The second installment of the Expanse series is a banger. That is mainly due to the introduction of Bobbie Draper and Chrisjen Avasarala. A Martian Marine and a politician at the top of her game. I loved seeing these two women interact. They are so much the polar opposites of one another that seeing them work together and bond was so much fun to read. I was always excited with a Bobbie or an Avasarala chapter came up.

I have heard The Expanse described as Game of Thrones set in space, and I can really see that comparison in this novel. Political power moves, and a mysterious looming threat are the main motif. But, there is an underlying hopefulness here that human kind can do the right thing if we just listen to each other, that I don’t see in GOT.
