The imagery is out of this world in this second installment of Wilde's dark pirate romance!

Delving into the deep end of the ocean with Poseidon and Ashley while they escape treacherous situations I found myself once again enthralled with all of the ocean descriptions in the second book of this trilogy.

While Poseidon, for the first time ever, struggles with the thought of keeping the treasure, Ashley, for himself, he also has to look after his crew, which is his first priority. He struggles with these thoughts quite a bit throughout the story, but while doing so we learn more about the man who seems so unfathomable in the first book as we get glimpses into his past and what makes up the pirate who is more than what he seems. While his call to the ocean is strong, his pull to Ashley is just as deep.

Ashley should be heading home, back to her rich Insta-life, but leaving the man - her captor - and his crew behind becomes harder every day she's aboard his ship. She struggles with her mixed feelings in her attraction to Poseidon and her disgust over his treatment of her. She knows her life was never perfect, but why does her torment at the hands of a pirate seem better than what she was used to?  Struggling with her feelings on returning or staying, she may not have a choice in the end.

Amelia has written a fascinating twist on these tales and I love the dark setting she's set the classic folklores in. And yes, A Deal With The Devil is a dark tale, but also written with beautiful imagery. The sea, the ocean, the colors that surround them are just gorgeous and make me want to travel desperately, minus the real pirates of course.

I enjoyed that one more than I did the first. I LOVED the flashbacks! Loved! And again the performance of the narrators is just incredible! Loved every second of it.
The steam was steaming! The smut was smutting!
The fight scene at the start of the book was awesome.
But again for me it was the pace of the story that didn’t quite do it for me.
But I still really enjoyed this book.

The first book took me a while to get into, especially since it was so different from the Hades & Persephone and Zeus & Brigit series, but holy shit this sequel is amazing! I've fully and completely fallen in love with Poseidon and Ashley, and their twisted and sexy connection. I'm so glad we got to see more of Poseidon's background, and at this point we need to protect this sexy pirate at all cost! He's been through so much and lost everything. The plottwist towards the end was something I did not see coming considering the set-up in the first book, but wow. Just wow. Amelia Wilde is a queen when it comes to cliffhangers, and this was no exception. I need to read the third (and unfortunately final) book in this trilogy like yesterday!

Poseidon is trying to push Ashley away… and she’s pissed. Pissed at his actions that he knows scarred him yet he did to her. In book 2… there’s a lot of back and forth between Poseidon and Ashley. Poseidon is conflicted, his crew is pissed at him… and his heart is not holding strong like it used to. There are a lot more emotions revealed in this book, history and the reason for the pearls. I enjoyed the fast paced read and the emotions flowing through the pages were incredibly written. I feel like there’s more to be revealed and I can’t quite put my finger on it.

A Deal with the Devil is the second installment in the Devil trilogy and picks up exactly where the first book ends. Right from the get-go, there is action and intrigue with enemy pirates attacking, tension between the hero and heroine after a particular event (part of book 1's cliffhanger!), and several flashbacks that give insight into Poseidon's life and upbringing.

I'll admit I did struggle with this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book and flew through it very quickly, but with A Deal with the Devil, it didn't hold my attention as much and I struggled to get through a few parts. I found myself putting it down several times and then coming back to it. By the end, I'm glad that I took my time finishing it because it did contain aspects that clarified things from book 1 and also set up things for the third and finale book in the series.

However, despite the few scenes that didn't quite hold my attention, I very much enjoyed the dark romance that continued from book 1. If you've read The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (or any of Amelia Wilde's other work), you'll know the romance is dark, steamy and full of *fans self* moments. You get all of that and more in A Deal with the Devil as Ashley and Poseidon's relationship develops further.

Overall, I definitely preferred the first book but this one set up things very nicely for the finale and I cannot wait to see how this series ends. Wilde is a fantastic writer and what I love about her writing style is you never quite know what to expect in how the stories will go. I've been kept on my toes the entire time so far during this series and I look forward to finding out how Poseidon and Ashley resolve things.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys pirate romance (with a twist), bdsm, and/or dark romance.
