The Divorce

3.25 AVERAGE

The characters were unfortunately not likeable and some of the topics discussed were downright unsettling to read, especially given my spiritual beliefs.

I didn’t hate it. I loved the concept and I think it would’ve been a lot better if the ending had been sad. You know in that Jennifer Aniston movie The Breakup where they don’t get back together and then the movie just ends and you see that they’ve grown as people apart? I hated that when I saw it but I think it would’ve been so much more impactful. I think it’s refreshing to see a romance book about a struggling marriage, but I think it would’ve been more refreshing to say “sex and history isn’t enough, and sometimes things don’t work out because you aren’t compatible and that’s okay.”

Anyway, 3/5. I liked the story a lot and all of my gripes were about grammar or character choices, which obvi were intentional

There were so many typos and grammatical mistakes I couldn't take it. I also liked neither characters, they were very childish.

This book isn't the best, but it isn't the worst. If you can just ignore all the "my stupid Sagittarius star sign made me fall"s and "oh no, I'm so clumsy and weird and different"s you may enjoy this book. Aside from the major pick-me energy, I did enjoy this book. I cried numerous times while reading it which is always a good sign for me.

3 disappointed stars

I really really wanted to love this one. I was in the exact right mood too. It just never clicked. The pieces were all there, they just never quite fit.

I think it has to do with a couple of things. First of all, two years of unhappiness is A LOT. Not to mention that Jenzy pretty much says she falls for the OM. And I did want better grovelling from Chris. Don't get wrong, this entire book is grovelling, it just didn't work for me. And the resolution felt off.

....what can I say. It's subjective.

I adored Jenzy to death! What a sweet free spirit. She truly embodies “your life your choice”. Chris on the other hand honestly pissed me tf off. But the writing was stunning and raw and beautiful. As bad as I felt for Moses I wouldn’t have been able to handle her staying with him. But how refreshing for him to not be pushy and demanding of her.

Also I wanna read about Todd and Mandy!

This book had me sobbing for more than 30 Minutes

This is going to be a not so short review I just needed to rant about this book

Okay, so I've been loving the marriage in crisis trope lately, and this book is exactly that. Not going to lie, I was skeptical that this book would be worth more than a 3 star. First and foremost, the husband was a jerk who didn't respect his wife's beliefs, mocked her, hasn't touched her in 2 years, and when she told him they should divorce, he didn't know what he did wrong?
When she finally found a man who genuinely wanted her, he began to act jealous. At that point, I loathed him, but then everything changed as we began to comprehend what had happened in the past and I began to see who Jenzy had fallen in love with.Every time they go forward, Chris started to see that he was an asshole and started to change in order to have another chance with Jenzy . Chris makes a mistake again, until he decides to let Jenzy go. This is where the letter comes in . This is when I started crying nonstop for thirty minutes. Chris told Moses everything he knew about Jenzy in a letter so that he would treat her well, and his closing words to him broke me.

"I didn’t believe in them before but now I’m really praying there’s such a thing as past lives because if I get another chance I’m never letting her go. So don’t let her go.

The divorce is signed and I have it enclosed. Give it to her but don’t let her read this. This was for you. Only you.

              Chris"

While Jenzy wasn't intended to receive the letter, Moses handed it to her nevertheless because he knew that she still had feelings for Chris. In the end, I was rooting for Chris, and that letter was truly something special; if you read it in its entirety, you'll understand why I sobbed so hard—I've never cried this hard while reading a book—so I'm giving it a five-star rating.
